We recently received the Daymak Ecostar 500 Watt eBike at our store and it's been a pleasant experience right from the start. If you haven't heard of an eBike just yet, they are the latest way to get around town in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. On top of that, they require no license, registration or insurance. It's akin to riding a bicycle, with a
few regulations attached. eBikes are fully legal on Ontario roads and they completed a 3 year pilot program last year meaning you can now most definitely use your eBike for many years to come.
Our eBikes are from Daymak, which is a great eBike dealer based out of Toronto. They have built up a great range of models and styles for everyones tastes and we are happy to supply our Waterloo customers the Daymak brand.
To assemble, or not to assemble.
When you purchase an eBike, you have the option of receiving it in its original crate, or
we can assemble it for you, for a small fee. Assembly of the eBike takes about an hour and can be a rigorous process for some. You must install the front wheel with the brake, the rear view mirrors, align the steering wheel, pedals, and adjust the governor. If you are handy, you can definitely assemble it yourself but we highly recommend two people. Remember that we also provide an assembly, PDI, and 1 Year warranty option on our assembled eBikes, so that's also a great option for you.
The Ecostar eBike is slim and sleek.
Once assembled, the Daymak Ecostar looks slim and fun to ride. It does not disappoint! The Ecostar is very light, which is a nice change as many eBikes you will find are a bit heavier. Being light makes the Ecostar not only easy to ride and maneuver, but also very easy to put away for the night or park in the lot. I found the Ecostar had a nice kick to it which helps a lot when you are starting up at a street light and need to keep up with everyone else. Speed does not disappoint and stays at a consistent 32km/h (Which is the legal limit in Ontario for eBikes). Going up hills and around turns is simple and once you get used to the way the eBike moves you'll be getting around easily in no time!
Keeping your eBike safe and charged is easy!
The Ecostar comes with a rear wheel key lock that makes it near impossible for a single person to take your bike. In addition, we are currently providing (As of June 2010, sales may change) a free U-Lock whenever you purchase a Daymak eBike from us. If you live in an apartment, the battery is easy to remove and bring up stairs to charge for the night.
In summary, the Daymak Ecostar eBike is great if you need to get around town for some simple errands. It's slim, making it easy to maneuver through city cores with but safe and stable so you are not worried. The eBike will get about 45km on a single charge, varying depending on how much hills and weight is on applied to the bike, but it's enough to get from one location and back, then simply charge it once a night like you would your cellphone.
